How to choose the best Robot Vacuum Cleaner?

If you live in a house that is a good fit for a robot vacuum cleaner, it could save you 80% of the time you would spend vacuuming.

It’s good to think about how much your time is worth and would it make sense to get a robot vacuum cleaner?

A robot vacuum will move around your house, brushing the floor and sucking up the dust.  When it encounters an obstacle such as a chair or a wall, it will update its internal floor plan, then turn and move in a different direction.  Most automatic vacuum cleaners can be programmed or controlled remotely from a mobile phone app.

Robot Vacuum Cleaners are commonly known as “BotVacs” or “RoboVacs”

BotVacs can range from basic no-frills cleaners to high-end automation machines.  If you are in the market for a robotic vacuum cleaner, you most likely have discovered that you really have a need for one.  You have decided that the drudgery of clambering over and around furniture, dragging a hose and or a power cord are no longer for you. Perhaps you are drowning in dog hair or cat hair. It’s time for a machine to take over and allow you the time to do more important things.. like shopping or chatting with friends.

And it really doesn’t have to break your budget.  Compared to standard traditional vacuum cleaners, VacBots can represent good value.  In fact, one of the best cleaners on the market can be procured for under $1000.  A good deal could find you one that is much cheaper than that.

What robot vacuum is best?

Best Robot Vacuum
Roomba i7+

You may wonder which robot vacuum is best for you.  The Roomba i7+ Robot Vacuum has been assessed as the best in its class, with a typical price tag of $950.  One of the main features of this popular machine is that it can empty its own bin.  Think about that for a minute.  This eliminates one of the most distasteful aspects of vacuuming.

Another handy feature is that you can specify which rooms you want the i7+ to clean.  If one room is too messy for it to tackle, just use your phone app to tell it to skip that room.  Cluttered bedrooms can be left untouched while the BotVac takes care of the hallway and the kitchen area.  It also uses a proprietary rubber agitator to remove grime from carpets.

This unit may cost a month’s rent to purchase but is top of the heap for convenience and labour-saving features.

Budget Vacuums

Ecovacs recently added the Deebot 711 to its line of robot vacuums.   The Deebot 711 comes with the robot and charging dock, four side brushes (two for the machine and two backups), two high efficiency filters (one for immediate installation and one backup), a remote control with batteries included, and a brush cleaning tool. It also comes with a user manual, quick start guide, and warranty information.

It looks a lot like many other robot vacuums, circular and black with a small charging dock, rover-like wheels and a front universal wheel, a main brush and two front brushes, and a dust bin that slides into position.

However, despite its similar appearance to many robovacs on the market, the Deebot 711 has stronger performance and more features than most robot vacs in its price range.

your cat or dog, but they will likely get used to it having a mind of its own.  Unfortunately, along with its extra ability to deal with pet hair, it is also comparatively noisy.

The 980 does not have a lot of other features but has good mapping capabilities so can be targeted at the area most likely to accumulate pet hair.  It does however feature a longer-lasting battery and a camera to assist in navigating the rooms.  It also talks to you and features carpet boost setting to boost power over carpets and an edge clean setting to more effectively clean along the skirtings of your rooms.

The Roomba 980 has a price tag of around $900.
